Edmond Clint Fernandes (born 3 September 1990) is an Indian physician who is the founder and CEO of CHD Group, an Indian non-profit global health organization holding United Nations Economic and Social Council special consultative Status & UNFCCC Observership Status. He is a member of the Health Task Force, DDMA, Government of Karnataka & Alumnus of US Department of State. He served as Former Consultant to UNESCAP Bangkok.
Early life and education
Fernandes was born on 3 September 1990
in Niddodi,
Mangaluru. He attended Don Bosco High School, Matunga.
He completed his MBBS from Father Muller Medical College
& completed his MD in Community Medicine from Yenepoya University.
He was the chief editor of the student magazine
Mullerpulse at Father Muller Medical College.
He was a visiting scholar to Drexel University.

Policy advocacy
Dr. Fernandes has worked in multiple humanitarian emergencies such as
Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and also in
Cyclone Fani, Kerala Floods etc providing medical relief, care and post disaster epidemiological interventions.
He has advocated for a ban on doctor's white coats to prevent hospital acquired infections
and also advocated to regulate work hours of resident doctors to reduce preventable deaths,
and requested the Health Secretary to Government of India to remove the mandatory retirement age for doctors to plug shortages.
To combat rising heart attacks among population groups, he advised people to keep 300mg
aspirin in their pockets always and to take the pill when they develop severe chest pain.
In 2017, he spoke at the United Nations Regional Hub in Bangkok on how South–South cooperation at the
ASEAN level can create a new world order in strengthening international development.
Further, he was engaged by the US Government for a high-level deliberation on public health and climate crisis in the Indo-Pacific Region.
He has addressed various public health issues such as mental health,
food security
climate goals
through UNFCCC COP
& other forums.
Contributions to public health
Fernandes demonstrated proof of concept to end
malnutrition in India through a pilot project in
Yelburga, Karnataka.
He co-founded Mission ICU,
a citizen-driven initiative under CHD Group. Mission ICU has supported over 23 District Hospitals of India with over 200 plus ICU beds and ventilators, thereby building surge capacity in government hospitals.
Fernandes wrote to the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court and to Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah to ensure a full ban on firecrackers in the state with silent hours to mark the commitment to climate justice.
Dr. Fernandes was instrumental to implement seat belt policy for road safety in the city of Mangalore in the year 2015.
